Motorola has made public their new XT316 smartphone which is a QWERTY keyboard and touch screen Android. They say is fashion, fun, functional and budget friendly. I agree with all except the fashion part as the design makes me think of people who are working in construction field or engineers. The most important technical details are:
-- DISPLAY: 2.8 inches QVGA capacitive multitouch, 16M colors
-- CPU: ARM 11 600 MHz.
-- GPU: Adreno 200.
-- MEMORY: 256 MB RAM.
-- STORAGE: 521 MB for ROM, microSD card slot up to 32GB.
-- CAMERA: 3MP.
-- CONNECTIVITY: 3G, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, micro-USB port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, A-GPS.
-- SENSORS: Accelerometer, Proximity, Digital Compass.
-- MULTIMEDIA: QWERTY keyboard.
-- BATTERY: Li-Po 1420 mAh.
-- OS: Android 2.2 Froyo upgradable to Gingerbread.
-- APPLICATIONS: Google apps, social networking.
The announcement mentions an amazing battery life with performance of 27 days for stand-by - that is if it`s a reality. The XT316 is a main competitor for those other QWERTY smartphones from BlackBerry, Nokia, Samsung and HTC. Of course is great for users who like touch screen devices but prefer a physical keyboard to type quickly and simple.
